General Prize Structure:

  1. Contestants are eligible to win any of the prizes in either Agency or Indie categories; independent developers’ applications will not compete for prizes assigned to agencies and agencies will not compete for prizes assigned to independents
  2. People choice awards will be granted based on community voting tallies in the Application Directory. Submit early, often and promote your application submission to your network for a greater chance of winning. The top two applications with the most votes will win this award.
  3. Contestants can be an individual or a team of individuals; prize money will be awarded to the agency or team leader for distribution to your team.
  4. No single app can win more than one Gold, Silver or Bronze prize. However an app can win a Gold, Silver or Bronze prize AND the People’s Choice award and a contestant can win an unlimited number of prizes total as long as they are for separate application submissions
  5. Contestants can enter as many applications as they like and each app is eligible for a prize according to these rules
  6. Contestants must submit their applications to the submission portal here

Judging criteria:

  1. Usefulness to the citizens, visitors and government of Washington DC
  2. Potential for application to be useful for other governmental bodies
  3. Appeal of the application from a usability perspective
  4. Inventive and original nature of the application

Granting of Awards:

  1. Awards will be granted by a panel chosen by The District of Columbia’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer
  2. Two People’s Choice awards will be granted based on users’ votes in the Application Directory. Agency and Indie distinctions are irrelevant for this award.
  3. Awards will be granted on November 14th, 2008 at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC (register). You do not have to be present to receive your award (we will live stream the event here). The award ceremony will be able to accommodate a minimum of 1000 people and will include light snacks and beverages
